A fella just delivered a 1995 Wrecked XJ that I bought the other day. 4.0, 5spd, EXTERNAL clutch, 95,650 on the clock. Belonged to the City of LaVeta. Impact drove the front axle back driving the front drive shaft back and shattering the 231. Didn't hurt the engine or transmission. Hopefully it will lead to better things. While talking I asked him if he knew of any Jeep P/U around. He said his neighbor has two, a Blue one he drives once a week and one with paneling, he pointed to my Waggoneer and said. "Like that," That he never drives. From his description they are both in excellent shape. He said the guy is older than I am. He's going to talk to him and call me, so I may be going down this afternoon or tomorrow and have a look. They are both MJ'S. And I tried to upload pics but as usual Photo Bucket refused to co-operate so after half an hour I gave up. Getting overly anxious to go look. We'll see.

Haven't ID'D the rear axle yet. ONly know it's not a D35 or D44. The dash is full of screw holes where they had all kinds of something or another in it. Two holes in the roof. Still had the podium like mount for a radio. Been most of the day just removing bent metal. The left hand side LCA was ripped off the axle and the control arm was bent over 90*  Upper control arm bent 60* Front driveshaft was pushed back into the 231 shattering it and wiping out both UJoints. Double checked the frame and amazingly it isn't bent. Radiator's OK. Left front fender, hood, bumper, grill, back panel and windshield needs replaced. Interior clean. I got this just to part it out for the engine and tranny but after getting into it, I'm going to fix it and keep it. I've got everything it needs except a 231. Maybe I'll see if I can swap a 242 or 249 into it.

A government XJ. Could have a D44 and high idle switch :) At least that is what I have come across around here.

I think the D44's were long gone by '95... I imagine it has an 8.25, as uncle sam probably didn't get ABS. The keys to an actual municipal prep are the extended idle switch, and the certified 125 MPH speedometer... Other than that, I've seen them with or without carpet, vinyl seats, and the like.
