Goose
Ok, I had a friend give me a factory grill guard for an mj. I have seen guys mount a winch to them with some modification. Anyone know how to do this and what is needed?
Automan2164
I seriously doubt you could mount a winch to the factory brush guard... I've seen hidden winches in partner with the brush guard, but nothing added to the front of it as an after thought. Rob
yellaheep
Yeah, those OEM/Mopar grill guards won't stand up to a winch even with some bracing. Warn is about the only company still offering a grill/brush guard winch combo. Look at the schematics for one of those and you'll see a huge difference in the design and bracing. If you like the look of the grill/brush guard, I'd suggest getting a simple winch bumper, then cutting the grill/brush guard down and mount it to the top surface of the winch bumper. It'd end up looking a bit like this
Automan2164
If truely is an MJ factory grille guard.. There wouldn't be a place to mount a winch anyway... In the same breath as that though, if it is MJ era... Don't cut it up. I'm sure a member would love a original. Rob
Goose
I saw a picture of a members rig where he had cut into the bumper, and welded a winch plate into the factory bumper, then welded/bolted it to the frame rails. I'll see if i can find a pic.
Blue88Comanche
another non factory option (but looks similar) would be a warn trans4mer grille guard the brush guards are optional, and the winch carrier is also optional. there is also a 2 inch receiver, and light bar, option
Goose
Oh snap. That's the same guard I have, minus the winch mount. So can I just order the mount from warn? I thought since one was mounted to a factory bumper it was oem.
Blue88Comanche
mine attaches to the frame at the bumper bracket locations, there are braces on both sides of the bumper mount on the frame and the front cross member.. you can sorta see them in this picture the WARN part numbers are Grille guard center 60766 Brush Guards 39563 light bar 73745 Winch carrier 29394 2 inch receiver 29397 I think i bought all my stuff from 4wheelparts.com, Grille guard center Brush guards Winch carrier if the links don't work search for the warn part number and it will bring it up

I thought since one was mounted to a factory bumper it was oem. I think the factory grille guards attached directly to the bumper it self and not the frame, but i could be wrong..
