Sound Deadening

Recommended Posts

I want to decrease road noise. Has anyone tried using styrofoam packing peanuts in the cab corners all the way up the B-pillar? I know spray foam is a major no no.

I covered the cab in "Frost King" Duct Insulation.

Basically just rubber/foam covered in Foil and is self adhesive.

Really quieted things down in the truck, Its about $15 a roll i think.. From Lowes or Home Depot.

Took about 2-3 rolls to do everything with overlapping.

I went with EZ Cool sound and heat insulation for the roof panel behind the headliner and under the back window behind the backboard.

Packing peanuts as mentioned above will make it squeak and be noisy; they could also break down and settle. Another thing to consider is if they would interfere with the seatbelt operation by getting in the retractor mechanism.

Has anyone tried Lizard Skin? It is costly but seems to be high quality.

There's a guy on JeepForum with a gladiator who used lizard skin on the underside of his cab. he might of did the inside too, I can't remember. Check it out if your interested Its called "tribute" build or something.

I purchased a 4' by 10' roll and have 3M aerosol headliner and trim adhesive for application [strong stuff]; I am waiting on a warm day to complete the install... it's all currently in my garage waiting to go in along with a fresh headliner. I estimate the majority of the roll of insulation will be used.

About the insulation, after reading reviews of a dozen or so different kinds, the EZ Cool was the winner and should work as effectively as Dynamat at a fraction of the cost and weight. Don't pick up tar-backed stuff or the foam-n-foil kind from Lowe's or Home Depot.

EZ Cool. Cheap(er) solution adhered with headliner spray adhesive. I used two rolls, but have some left over. Covered floor, door panels, roof, back panel, B pillars.

I also stuffed fiberglass batting into the A & B pillar holes. Not tight, but enough to help.

IMO -Stay away from tar or roofing materials - summer heat will release the VOC's and smell up the truck.

Had a friend just use it in a **cough cough** F150 with good results, too.
