dakal
anybody swapped the battery and water reservoir on a 1988? two much plumbing. concerned about height of reservoir changing. i have a battery thats small enough to fit against the fire wall. i want to keep as much weight as i can between the axles. also the length of the hoses,[ radiator], is nuts. JeepcoMJ
switch it to a 92 or higher HO style radiator...the full core ones had an open system with a Rad. cap and just a reservoir rather than the pressure system's reservoir and 4 ft hoses to the water pump. as for battery, i think it wise to leave it be...really, 10 lbs (less) is not gonna make much of a differense
Pete M
You could route the battery to the bed or even behind the seats.
reddog
Will a battery make that much of a difference moving it 2 ft. Its only 40lbs. It seems like that would be a pain in the @$$ just for a couple lbs.
dakal
i come from a road racing background. its all about weight in the corners, having the whole vehicle, as much as possible take the corners, or in this case, bumps. i try to balance the suspension. after i get coilovers in front, i will corner weight it to make sure both sides are as equal as possible. plus i'm a anal perfectionist. so any detail is more than worth the trouble. when i'm done with the radiator & battery move i'll post before and after pics. by the way, magnacor spark wires are the best. cheaper at apex performance. :brows: yes that will move to. anything comes under the knife. JeepcoMJ
put it in the bed, putting it in front of the blower motor...well, that would mean relocating the coolant reservoir which typically holds weight anyways. i understand the corner weight, but i don't like it. to each his own

dakal
i thought about the bed, but haven't designed the bed for various stuff going there. inside i won't have room, with roll cage, inverter, cup holders-haha :D . i want to save room as its a narrow fit in the cab. this is a very small battery. i think its a perfect fit above the fan. the cooling hoses and the other crap are driving me crazy. who designed it? i will do trial fit when i remove the res-a-voir. JeepcoMJ
what are the measurements of the battery, and what is the application. I STRONGLY advise against using anything that is used in a recreational vehicle. use something designed for a CAR. that limits you on size. also, smaller batterys don't hold as much juice and so you're sacraficing that by putting one in. when i get batteries, i usually go for the biggest one i can find, and the most heavy duty. especially when doing so for offroad vehicles. dakal
deka. i went to a trusted supplier and they said it would work. new type. we checked load for truck and the battery is strong enough. before i do the install will check actual load, and see that it works. when i bought this truck, it came with lots of trick stuff.but, the battery, cables, and some other wires are in bad shape. so that was the start of relocating at this time. i must fix this before i go much further driving it.
