1. My radio lights up but doesnt come on... Ideas?

 

Check your fuses. A couple fuses (mostly) fixed my radio's problems, but before I did that, the only time the radio came on was when I hit some bad washboard. As of today, that was the only time I've ever had sound out of my passenger side speakers, so I'm thinking there's some ground/wiring issues there. In my searches, I've seen people have success redoing/improving their dash grounds. I just haven't had the ambition to pull apart my daily driver looking for the problem.

 

 

2. Best fluids to run in Axles, Trans, and Transfer?

Do a search for each fluid. This topic comes up every now and again.

 

3. How do I tell what Axles my MJ have?

 

Compare your diff covers to this picture. Easiest if you snap a picture.

More than likely if they're factory axles, the rear will be the Dana 35, but if you got lucky you'll have the Dana 44. As far as I can tell, the only option for front is the Dana 30. The Chrysler 8.25 replaced the D44 in the XJ, but after the MJ's time.

If they're not factory, well, I guess it's more likely you've got the D44 under the back end, but theoretically, you could have anything under there.

 

I'm new to this game, but if someone would like to chime in if I'm wrong, that would be awesome.

Auto trans takes Dexron as does the transfer case.
