Interior Qesution

i was at the junk yard today and there is a jeep cherokee it's a 1987 it has all black interior which is really clean. my qesution is it worth taking out and will the stuff all fit in my comanche and how hard is it to change the dash and it also has the better guage pack what all need to change this

If it's 2dr you can't use the door panels but the seats are like gold because they fold forward. The dash can be a PITA if you never removed one before but the gauge cluster is fairly simple. Detach the speedo cable at the transmission and frame clip so you can take it or at least have slack to pull the cluster. The black 3 spoke steering wheels are nice but don't lose any small parts as you remove it. And PLEASE spell question correctly. You're killin' me Smalls.

The black interior is beautiful and rare. As Remi said, you can use the door panels obviously if it's a 4 door XJ. If it's a two door XJ, the seats fold forward and will fit into your MJ with some modifications. The dash etc will swap over, but it's a difficult and involved process.

 

Whether or not you can use the instrument cluster depends on the year of your truck and what engine you have. 91 and 92 have fully electronic speedometers rather than a cable speedometer, so the 87-90 style cable clusters won't work. If your truck is 87-90 you will be fine. The act of actually swapping the cluster is simple, but swapping a 4 cylinder tach into a 6 cylinder Jeep or vice versa will make it read incorrectly, either 2/3rd or 3/2 of the actual RPM rate of the engine depending on the discrepancy between the donor's engine and yours. The clusters can be modified to read correctly, but I'm not sure how it's done.

 

If you end up not wanting to do the swap, get the stuff anyway and sell it. Someone's bound to want to pay for it.

i have a 88 right not my cluster is the simple one with fuel guage and speedo

Pulling the dash in an XJ/MJ has to be one of the easiest things to do on the truck. There is nothing hard about it besides knowing where it's attached. Once the steering column, knee board, cluster, radio, and HVAC... Etc... Is out, it's literally about 6-8 bolts. With experience, you could probably have a dash on the ground next to the truck in 15-20 minutes. Seriously. And you have a seat the whole time your working on it!

 

Keep in mind what would be in the way, and dive in. Practice at the yard on another Jeep to see how it comes apart, then go for it.
