Ideal Pre-Winch Upgrades

My new winch will be arriving tomorrow, before I install it I plan to remover the Bumper and Grill Guard to ensure that all the bolts are Still nice and tight. What would be a good check list to do before installing a Winch, and what electrical upgrades are suggested? I don't plan to use the winch often, it will mostly be used for yard work related tasks, but it may be used offroad on a rare occasion.

pretty much be ready to bolt it up and find a good way to route the wires so that they don't contact anything (far from fans and belts haha)

What winch are you going with?

 

A better than stock replacement battery is a must. One thing to remember is, generally, the cheaper winches pull many more AMPs than the more expensive winches. With a good battery (I like Sears Diehard Platinum with two sets of fully rated terminals) I wouldn't even bother with an alternator unless you have problems later on.

I have a Smittybilt XRC8 winch, and my battery is a gold autocraft 875 amp battery.

 

I don't know if the alternator has ever been replaced, but should it need be what should I get?
