Zebvance Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 I have a 1988 jeep comanche that has been converted to 4x4 by the owner, and I know it has cherokee axles. the comanche is a swb 4.0 auto tranny with a np231 transfer case.
Geonovast Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 The only auto used behind the 4.0 in the XJ/MJ is the AW-4.
Incommando Posted October 8, 2012 Posted October 8, 2012 Google a pic of the AW4 and compare. The drivetrain form a 4x4 XJ/MJ is probably what is used for this conversion 99% of the time but if they wished to do some electrical swapping it could be from a donor YJ/TJ/ZJ and could be one of several different automatics. All used the 4.0 engine and 231 transfer case like the XJ/MJ but the tranny between them changed.
