comanche5L
hey guys, don't know why i havent signed up here before but no time like the present. ive owned my MJ for 8 years now and picked up a second 3 years ago. i have a mustang 5L in my '88 2wd, and picked up the '91 for off roading. here's a few pics: more pics here( http://www.cardomain.com/ride/463997/1 ) and the '91: ( http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2574509/1 ) My question is that I'm looking for the 4.5-5.5" lift. i can't afford to swap rear ends or re-gear right now, so i plan on sticking to 31x10.5 BFG MT's for now. does anyone have any pics of their rigs with this set up? my only fear is that the tires may look to small with this lift, and i would run 33's if i could. i did get a rear end out of a '69 426 T-bird that i plan on using, its a 9" POSI, but it has to be freshined up first. thanks a lot, Justin
JeepcoMJ
real nice, i'm diggin the paint job on the v8. there are plenty of people with that lift combination...but no 31x10.50's most likely. To give you an idea though, I AM going to a 4.5 or 5 inch lift with my 31x10.50's and keeping them cause they look too big with only a 3 inch lift and too small for a 5.5 inch lift. my 2 cents for ya
feerocknok
If you want you tires too look okay but want room for when you get larger tires, you might want to look into an add-a-leaf combined with some lift shackles for 4", instead of the 5-6" from the SOA. comanche5L
well ideally i would like to run the RE 3.5 lift, i absoutly love it and it works well with the 31's, but when i priced it, it was more than the SO 5.5". i didnt want to pay more for a less capable vechile. Huh. It should be alot cheaper. If you decide to piece together a 4"ish lift, you can save some money too. $100 for coils, $100 for LCAs, $100 for an add-a-leaf, $50 for shackles. But SOA is a good way to go as well, and you'll net alot more lift.
comanche5L
this is the price i got: RE1140 Gen 2 Discos - $179.95 RE1300 3.5" Coils - $224.95 RE1380 Bump Stops - $39.95 RE3700 Fixed Lower Arms SF - $249.95 RE1600 Front Adj. Track Bar - $214.95 = $909.30 +tax = $1045 plus i still need shocks(probably $250), and to re-arch the rear leafs to match the front ($140). feerocknok
Yeah, the route I was suggesting was leaving RE, and it looks like you'd like to keep as much RE as possible. It is quality stuff. Sorry to distract the thread. You were looking for a SOA on 31s, right?
comanche5L
no you didnt distract it at all. the only reason i wanted to go with the RE is that i have seen a few cherokees with the RE 3.5 and 31's and i loved the look. sat up real nice, and i knew what mine would look like in the end. I have seen other 3" lift kits on MJs and i wasnt real impressed with how much they were lifted. I'm not against staying sprung under, in fact thats probably what ill end up doing. i may end up getting the XJ RE kit AAL, and using what i can out of it, and re-arching the rear. my dad is going to florida in a few weeks and i may get him to pick me up a kit while hes down there. it seems to be real expensive to buy the kits up here because they all have to be shipped up from the states. Pete M
31s with probably 6 inches lift at the time. Personally I think it looks fine. Since you have 3.07 gears now, there are 3.55 and 4.10 geared Jeep axles out there in the j-yards that you can swap right in for a good upgrade. And the occasional 4.56s (which I'm picking up tomorrow :D ). Not many guys seem to be rearching their springs on here, so make sure if you try it, you let everyone know the outcome. I do wonder why it's not popular.
comanche5L
wow pete that is just what I'm looking for. i don't think that looks to small at all. do you know the width of the tires? i may have to go for 15x12.5, and get some nice rims with maybe 4" BS. the only fear of re-arching was the rough ride, we did it to my dads CJ and it was real rough, but then again its a CJ and i can't remember if it was ever not rough to begin with. ill be posting up pics with whatever i decide to go with. Pete M
The tires are 31x10.5, but don't read too much into the rest you see since the axles are fullsize Ford. :D You could go SOA with 2wd MJ leafs if you find it's a bit too high in the rear. 2wds should sit about 1" lower. jared
5-6'' would be fine with the 31's, yeah they are a little small, but without cutting the fenders some 33's will rub some.
