jimoshel
Gonna pull a 249TC and swap a 242 in it's place. Think the shaft length and spline count will be no problem. Is there anything to look out for?
mvusse
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the 249 shift pattern is a little different from the 242, meaning you may need to change the shift gate as well. Also, if needed and if I remember correctly the input shaft can be swapped between similar year 231/242/249.
jimoshel
It will be a complete swap. including shift linkage, gate, bezel.
Comanche County
Is the 249 behind a 44RE?
jimoshel
I have one from behind all 3. 42RE, 44RE and 46RE.
Comanche County
Some will bolt right in, if they were behind the same transmission. But sometimes the input shaft needs to be changed out. For instance if you're putting a 242 from a AW4 behind a 46RE. http://kevinsoffroad.com/techarticles/Solitude%20242%20swap/249-242_swap.html http://www.cardomain.com/ride/771987/1998-jeep-grand-cherokee/page-3 http://cherokeekid5.tripod.com/t_case.htm http://jeephorizons.com/tech/tcase.html
