Kenosha Warrior
How would one go about doing that? The PO says the NP231 case won't go into 4x4 but I'm not thinking so. How would I check to see if the T-case engages 4hi and 4lo. lop the case into 4hi/lo and put the front end on jackstands and turn the wheel and see if the front shaft turns? I'm thinking it may just be the vac disconnect? He says it worked when he got the jeep in '1998 and recently it stopped working. I'm going to go take a good look at it and test drive it tomorrow. Anything I should look for taht would scream problems (mechanically)?
GirsMJ86
one way to test if 4wd is working is this. get in some stones (like a driveway) and floor it. in 2wd it wants to sink pretty good, in 4wd it takes off almost right away. or you can put the truck up on stands (front and rear) and test it. if it does happen to be the disco then take a look at my write-up in my 91 project section page 3. sounds like its the disco though if it just quite working. linkage will make it kick out of 4wd and stuff but not make it not work at all unless its just way loose or not connected at all.
