Dash ????

Recommended Posts

I found an MJ at the bone yard with black interior and bucket seat (the driver side seat is shot) but the rest of the stuff is in great shape and the guy wants $100 for every thing. As long as I take it out so my question for you guy and gal that have take the dash out is how hard is it to get out because the wife wants the black interior for her truck and I am willing to do it but only if I can get it all to match. I don’t want a black interior with a red dash.

Have not pulled an MJ dash before but I'm sure that it is easier than removing a 95 T-Bird dash with the 500 lbs of wire and computers but if your orignal dash is good why not just change the color - proper paints and dyes cost a lot less than $100.

It's simple. there are all the knee board screws to take out, then take out the accessories that are screwed to it, then unbolt the steering column (2 bolts) from it. then there are 3 more screws on the trim piece that goes over the defroster, and about 4 more under that. those are the hardest to get to.

after that, there are 2 nuts (one on each side) towards the bottom edge of the dash.

pull it loose, unhook all the wiring from the back of it and pull it through. make sure when you take the wiring out you try and save the clips for it...you will need them to reinstall it!

I envy you, i finally found my black interior, then ended up giving it to my dad for christmas

thank you JeepcoMJ that was what i need

your welcome. i've done it about 9 times now :P

my next advice is that you do it slowly. you won't get everything first time through, so if it seems to be loose, but you just can't quite pull it off, STOP, and look around it.

one thing you will also need to do is either disconnect the heater control from the heater box and vacuum hoses, or remove it entirely from the dash by unscrewing the 4 bolts to it, and then wiggling it and slide it out through the back of the dash.

good luck, if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask!
