MJchick
Finally know what it's gonna take to fix my MJ.Found out the idiot made a mess of some important things.Took it to the mechanic and he told me that he's gonna have to pull the whole tranny. He found that there where only 2 bolts holding the tranny in place, plus there where bolts broken off in there, and whoever did it put standard bolts in a metric thread. So now he has to change out all the bolts and re-thread all the holes. Also the fly wheel needs to be replaced cause the teeth are all screwed. After the looks of the bolts on the tranny he's gonna double check the clutch. Even though he's optomistic about the clutch he's thinking there may be a need to do some work to that to.but hopefully I'm gonna finally get a chance to drive it by the start of February and then I'll have some pics of it in sticky situations. Eagle
Previous owners can be SUCH losers! That sounds like the Cherokee I refurbished for my ex-GF a couple of years ago. That was an automatic, but the same deal -- missing bolts, messed up flywheel (flex plate), messed up rear main seal (even though he had had the pan off -- he replaced it using blue Permatex rather than spring for a gasket :grrrr: :headpop:  It turned out to be a really decent XJ, though, and she still has it and uses it regularly. Hang in there -- it'll be worth it. As much as I like my XJs, I LOVE my MJs.
KYMJ
I would suggest Heli-coils for the tranny bolt holes, if you haven't thought of that. Stronger than simply re-threading the holes.

The frustrating part is I've owned it for a month now and the only driving I've gotten to do was steering it when we towed it to the mechanics. If you can call that driving it. I just wanna get it running and finally have some fun with it.
