One door closes, another opens?

The announcement was made at work today; the owners are basically uninterested in continuing to run the company, and can't find a suitable buyer... So, it's being 'parted out' :rotf: This is with all of our aircraft being booked for the entire upcoming season, and half of them being out making money right now, and following one of the busiest winters we have seen in several years.

We know who the one major buyer is, and what they're taking (so far)... Another has presented contracts to buy a large portion of the remainder, but we don't know what is included in that, or what they will agree on.

Is this good? Bad? I really don't know. I'd just hope they get this over with, so I know if I'm either actively looking for another job, or just being absorbed by one of the buyers. Unfortunately, both buyers are not exactly local, and no hard offers have been made to acquire the facilities. At the same time, the old owners were not interested, and we knew it, and it showed, so it will be a positive change to work for people that are actually interested in making money :dunno:

Anyways, the first 12 aircraft will be handed over on the 16th. I would be surprised if I have the same employer (if any) by the end of the month :ack: Never been fired or laid off in my life, I've always left on my own terms. I guess there's a first time for everything.

Good luck and enjoy the summer on unemployment sounds like you deserve it!

No EI. It's against my beliefs.

That and I'd probably have to pay it back... I think I already wound up making too much this year. I worked 2500hrs last year, and they didn't pay out the O/T until this year.

That stinks, in 08' I had to lay off a lot of employees, whenever you have to lay people off its like kicking them in the nuts and it just stinks all the way around. Different situation for you but looks like the same result. I wish you the best of luck. Hope something pops up for you soon!

I could probably be on a plane for the arctic tomorrow, if I wanted, but I really don't... However, I'm going to ride this one until it's dead. I have one really awesome manager that gave the announcement, he was visibly completely distraught. He will need me until the doors close, and I think he deserves that out of me.

The only thing that sucks about riding it out is that undoubtedly a lot of the others will bail, and they will probably be taking the best of the available jobs. IE, the ones that aren't in the arctic, aren't for completely shady operators, or don't require relocation.

I don't know the situation, but loyalty was always something that I never overlooked in the Army or Civilian world. Not just personal friendship type, but mostly professional loyalty to the unit/company and its goals. Too many people overlook intangibles, but intangibles manifest into action when times get tough. Keep kicking butt, you'll be good.
