Gauging interest: factory style fiberglass bedsides.

Hey all,

I'm just trying to gauge what the general interest in 6' and 7' complete bedsides for MJs would be.

they would screw on via the inside of the bed rail, inside edge by tailgate, and front of bed. they would still let you use factory fender flares, though you would have to drill the holes, and the gas door would already be there. aside from that, they would appear (on the outside) to be perfectly factory.

I have an opportunity to get involved in making these, but at $2000/side for R&D on molds for them, I would have to have a good amount of interest.

I also need to know a realistic and fair price range of what you would be willing to spend on them.

Thanks,

Pat

Is that one guy still making steel besides?

yes, but they don't wrap around the tail light, and the rear lower quarter doesn't taper up like it should.

Seems to me that a sturdy fiberglass fender would end up being quite a bit thicker and the material would end up being much heavier than the OEM steel panel they'd be replacing.

I just cut away a longbed panel..... hardly weighed anything.

:dunno:

fiberglass is still pretty light.

and it's not the weight that brings this to mind. it's the "I'm spending the time to paint this and don't want to have to do it again in under 5 years when it rusts out...again" mentality that makes me think about doing it.
