jumping fuel pump

Recommended Posts

Trying to resurrect an 89 MJ, entire fuse panel is shot from a leaking mc can't tell which relay is the fuel pump and ballast resistor has char marks on it, obviously fuel pump won't prime and I need to get the varnish out of the tank Soooooo

All the threads I've read say jump pump directly to battery but no one ever says how to do it, could someone explain using small words, pictures perhaps?

Not sure what the fuel line routing has to do with it but what ever. Remember. You're running a unfused, always hot wire across the engine compartment. If it rubs or chaffs against something, or gets tangled in a spinning fan blade tour going to have a direct short, with the resulting sparks, smoke and possible fire. I would run it across the top of the radiator support and tie it down in a couple places. Wise thing to do would be find a hot when ign is on connection and tie into it. Direct to bat should only be an emergency job to get a disabled vehicle home.

I commented on the routing because the engine will not be cranking, so no need to wrry about the fan, no lick with the resistor s ;) o wired to the electrical connectocylrs from the pump and nothing so ordered a new one, considering the rust/rot on te one in place was ao good idea anyways

sorry, last post was from my shattered phone screen so didn't come out right, pump is shot even jumping from the connector off the pump, new one on the way, good news is that it started right away with starting fluid (after a year or two of sitting)
