After market bumper with factory flares and trim?

Recommended Posts

Is there an after market clean bumper that will bolt up with leaving on my flares and under trim? My front bumper is beat up and would like to replace it with something heavier that I can put larger off road lights on and possibly d-rings. I already have factory tow hooks also. What will bolt up to the factory bumper brackets and if not can somebody point me in the right direction? I don't need a winch or stinger bumper either. Looking in the $250-$400 range. These are three that I've kept my eye on. Any input?

My opinion only:

The first one is just not my style, but probably the best off road type bumper. Looks like it would give you more clearance over obstacles.

The second on protects the front corners better and the d-rings offer more versatility - it'd be my choice.

The third one, I had the same type of bumper on my old XJ. Looks good, but I'd bet that the mounts are not "through" welded. They're just welded at the inside corners of the bumper. They're durable enough, have room for mounting lights and look better than stock.

Can speak for the C4x4 and the Warrior as we have experience with both of them on our own rigs here.

Both will require that you at least trim the flare. You can mount them both without having to trim the fender if you don't want to, but it's a tight fit for the fender behind the ends. The Warrior one could probably be made to fit without trimming anything, but it'll be awful close.

As mentioned the Warrior one is not very strong, and I wouldn't recommend using it for any recovery. We've always recommended to customers who are set on that bumper to pair it with a set of C4x4 Towhooks/Brackets as that is in our opinion the best solution for recovery with that bumper. The C4x4 bumper is plenty strong for recovery.

Here is an older photo of Rebecca's XJ with the Warrior bumper paired with the C4x4 Towhooks. This is the best sideview I could find for you to give you an idea of how far it wraps around. She's trimmed, but you can get the idea of where the flare would fall if it wasn't trimmed.

This the one I have on the MJ. I got it off e-bay 3 years ago for $250.

I see them listed now and then but they're $425 now. Free shipping. The bumper bracket bolts strait up to the rails in the same holes as the tow hooks. They wrap around the corners right up to the edge of the flares, no caps needed, all steel. Don't have to cut anything. Not as beefy as I'd like and you'd have to modify it with some welding to add d-rings. There are a few different types, search "jeep xj bumper".

Still deciding on light covers.

Wow that bumper looks really good Paradise MJ. And you can leave the under trim and tow hooks on? I could not find it on ebay though. But that's what I'm looking for. How tough is the bumper compared to stock? I wouldn't modify it if I can still pull off of the factory hooks.

His bumper is the Warrior Products one.

They are not very strong at all. I have a customer-return on my MJ and came down on it on a rock crawling and it dented/twisted it really easy. I'd honestly compare them to stock-strength; just with better lines. If it's just for looks and you plan on using factory/aftermarket tow-hooks it's not a bad option; just don't expect it to holdup offroading.

I have not seen a warrior products bumper that would go on with all the factory trim and direct bolt. I'm looking for looks and I don't crawl my truck. My stock bumper is ratio and crooked and I'm just wanting stock look but with more room for lights. Anyone know good offload light that will go on that bumper. Also, I'm wanting to upgrade my headlights to hid's. Is there a full kit I can order for that?

I know it's not the strongest, and I don't particularly like the welds at the mounts. There is plenty of room for lights and standing on. I try not to hit things. It IS much beefier than the stock bumper...which isn't saying much. A good rock would probably mangle it, I just don't like the look of the "off road" bumpers. If I was going that way I'd just get some 3/8" thick rectangular tube stock and bolt it on. I also won't likely spend $400 on a bumper.

So this is the warrior products bumper I can buy off of any site or is this a special one?

All WP bumpers are the same for the XJ/MJ.
