brubakes
What all is needed to pull the older CAD front axle and put in a HP D30 from a 97-99 XJ?

Geonovast
Pretty much, yeah. Worst part is bleeding the calipers, because chances are you're changing brake generations. Nothing fancy to it at all. All XJ/MJ/ZJ/TJ Dana 30s are interchangeable. If you don't have any stubborn bolts you should be done in a couple hours. Pete M
and plugging a vacuum line so you don't have a leak. I assume you've matched the gear ratio with the rear axle?
bighause
The bolts on the upper control arms are torx bolts so make sure you have a set of torx bits. I've done this and it's pretty straight forward. Sometimes getting the control arm bolts lined up is a bear but a ratchet strap to pull it into place works great. I have done that, but it was a pain to do... all i did was remove the lowers mo make it easier to install new springs and spacers.. when i swap my D30 for a non cad, will it be easier to attach the upper or lower control arms first? Pete M
I went uppers then lowers. used a crowbar to pry the axle over a half inch for the last bolt. wish I had thought of using a ratchet strap.

brubakes
The reason I ask if if your putting a 242 into a MJ and want want to do away with the CAD as a whole so it won't destroy the case.
