Rymanrph Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 I have some decent aluminum wheels that have been neglected for far too long (before I acquired them). I'd like to get the nice polished look back, but I think I'd destroy my arm doing it by hand. I have a buff ball that I put on the drill and it worked a little but nothing substantial. They look fine from a distance, but terrible up close. Any ideas?
87Warrior Posted December 10, 2011 Posted December 10, 2011 I have tried a variety of drill attachments and die grinder attachments to polish a terrible set of Moabs I got a hold of... Sanding followed by aluminum polish has been the only satisfactory method I have tried. Get packs of sand paper, 200 through 2000 grit and get to work wet sanding... From this: To this (still in progress):
JeepcoMJ Posted December 11, 2011 Posted December 11, 2011 aircraft aluminum stripper. pulls the clear coat clean off, leaving you to be able to sand out the pitted sections. polish, then re-apply clear coat.
Rymanrph Posted December 11, 2011 Author Posted December 11, 2011 These are the wheels (on the white truck). Its the best of the 4 (which isn't saying much), but I don't think it has any clear coat on it.
