Fezzik
ok, so after being without reverse lights for a month or so, I decided it was time to get a new trans switch since they cut the wires short on my old one. IIRC I thought I saw somewhere that I could just cut and splice the wires to my existing ones from the truck, but my friend is telling me that I need to add power from somewhere to get them to work. TIA for the help.
Geonovast
AFAIK the reverse light switch is nothing more than a single throw switch to complete the circuit to the reverse lights. You should be able to just splice them back into the harness and be good to go. Shouldn't even matter which one's which.
Jeep Driver
By connecting the switch you are supplying power. Yeah I would splice it in.
Fezzik
Just want to update this incase anybody else is searching for the answer So, my mechanic is proven an idiot again. there wasn't power at the plug but it was because the trans fuse was blown again, I replaced it and now the back up lights are working like they should
