Pete M
are you swapping in just the block? or the entire 99 jeep into your truck? check out the Dakota gas tank swap thread. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=32591 also:
mvusse
If you're swapping everything, you will need a different sending unit. Cherokee one will not fit in a stock Comanche tank because it is mirror image and the pan in the bottom of the tank gets in the way. Stores will tell you they sell Comanche ones, but they don't. They think Comanche and Cherokee interchange and don't know about the mirror image problem. HOWEVER, a (the) Cherokee unit SHOULD fit inside an aftermarket Comanche tank WITHOUT the pan. Pay attention when ordering, because after market tanks are available both with and without pans. If you're only swapping the block, keeping the Renix injection system and electronics, there is nothing wrong with using the sending unit and pump you have now. jamonroe75
What is the purpose od the pan in the tank. I am having trouble with the fuel pump sending unit. (1986 mj 2.5 TBI) could i change to an XJ tank and sending unit and just use an mj pump?
mvusse
The pan is to help keep the gas around the pickup tube when the tank is mostly empty and the remaining gas is sloshing around the tank. An XJ tank will NOT fit under an MJ.
jamonroe75
What tanks will fit? can i use a later model MJ tank? one with an electric fuel pump and change the pump?
mvusse
Your best bet will be to use the Cherokee sending unit and pump with an aftermarket Comanche tank that does not have the slosh pan. The pump mounts to the sending unit, not to the tank.
