Similar to a problem i just recently had. Check, Fuel pump, fuel filter and o2 sensor.

I finally got my mj running right. :wrench: (fuel pump, sending unit and o2 sensor, don't ask :doh: :wall: ) I have a Stock 86 mj with a 2.5 engine and a 4 speed transmission. What upgrades are recommended. It will be a hunting and fishing and working truck. No major mudding or flexing.

It turn out to be a combination of O2 sensor and fuel pump. Thanks for the the help

Filter was the first thing changed.

What tanks will fit? can i use a later model MJ tank? one with an electric fuel pump and change the pump?

What is the purpose od the pan in the tank. I am having trouble with the fuel pump sending unit. (1986 mj 2.5 TBI) could i change to an XJ tank and sending unit and just use an mj pump?

I have a 1986 Jeep Comanche Custom, been having random dying issues. while waiting for parts i dropped the tank to clean it and looked inside it. I pulled the fuel pump sending unit and noticed a few problems. i the screen was zip ties to the pump and there was grit and particles in the screen and in the lower section of the pump. I also noticed that the electrical connection on the sending unit was loose. if i would have filled it up it would have leaked out of the holes for the connection. Question 1. Where can i get another sending unit? Question 2. If i can find one, how can i modify one? Question 3. Can i swap tanks with an similar year XJ? Question 4. What is the best way to clean it?

You will need a speedometer cable for an 88-90 XJ or MJ. If the cluster came from a vehicle with a different engine than yours, you may also have to calibrate the tachometer. If i swap the Speed-o-meter with the current will that be good.

does the 86 2.5 have an IAC? if so where is it located at?

I just got a gauge cluster for a 1989 jeep comanche Eliminator. What will i have to do to install it in a 1986 comanche?

I found a SWB bed and a tail gate at The U-Auto-Pull-It in Monroe, La. The bed stripped i think is about $150

it sputters while in gear, and acts like it is flooding out if i press on the gas (while in gear). if i take it out of gear and press on the gas it does ok for a few more second and start to sputter and die

I am not sure what the problem is. it will run for about a mile and then dies. it will re-start with no problem immediately after it dies. I can figure out why it dies. I was thinkin it may be in the computer, so was thinking about eliminating that.

What about the electronics and the fuel pump?

I have an 86 2.5 4 cylinder with a throttle body on it. After talking to a friend about the trouble i have been having i have the following question. Can an engine with throttle body be swapped to run with a carberator? If so, how hard is it?

I Have the same ones. This one appears to follow the black on to the the football.

I am planning on cleaning the throttle body. i have seen several threads the said to use O2 sensor safe throttle body cleaner. Is Sea Foam Deep Creep O2 sensor safe.

Please help identify the loose connections in the two pics. :help: :help: they are the same connections just different views. same pic different view and are any of them supposed to be attached any where. the orange one comes from a connector toward the front of the engine bay

will 1993 v8 ZJ coils do the same

you are right. it has a throttle body. can any one offer any help to the problem. I also forgot to mention this. when cranking it revs up high, then idles fine, everytime. even after dying, and restarting. :dunno: :???: :dunno:

I have an 86 comanche with the 2.5 4 cylinder. It runs for about a mile then dies, but starts right back up. I have replaced the Fuel Filter and check the gas cap vent. it still does it. fuel lines from tank are ok. It is getting gas all the way to the carb. i can't think of what the problem might be. any suggestions. :???: :dunno: :???: :dunno: :???: :dunno:
