big66440
Anyone tried replacing their own windshield? I have a leak thats killing my passenger side floor board but I can't find the gasket/seal for the windshield.
Eagle
There is no gasket. The windshield is held in and sealed with glass sealant. Used to be a butyl, but I think now they use a polyurethane formulation.
64 Cheyenne
Got a brand new windshield with rubber garnish in the shop for the Chief. Plan on updating it's build page and doing a full WS replacement DIY this weekend. Many people say, only let the pros do it, and I agree, especially if you have any doubts about your skills, but if you are careful it can be done with excellent results. Dadinator
Yes, do the DIY... I have a cracked windshield and a good one in a donor I want to swap. Would be very interested in the DIY. :clapping:
flint54
RE: "There is no gasket." So, the newer XJ's rubber perimeter is only a trim and not a seal? If that's the case, can I just pull off my old pitted and dented metal trim and install that rubber trim, or does the glass still need to come out? I would be delighted to be able to just replace metal with rubber trim and not disturb the glass!

The new gasket is trim -- the windshield itself is the same part -- but you do have to remove the glass to install the new style gasket.

Would be very interested in the DIY. :clapping: DIY done viewtopic.php?f=9&t=32365 I would not use the multi tool to get out a good WS, only thing I would use is a bicycle cable as in my back window DIY.
