Blue88Comanche Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 so my Blue Comanche has been sitting for a few weeks because the tranny was messed up... well the other day i went out to start up the engine because i did not want it to sit up too long, i let it run for about 10 - 20min with a few revs here and there and some constant throttle.. the electric fan was going and the hood was also up.. after i shut off the engine i noticed the bottle was full and started to leak water from the cap.. while the truck was running the bottle was about 1/2 full but filled up when shut off. and because i can't figure out how to post youtube directly the the thread apparently the link is above where the clips should be... thanks
jimoshel Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 That's normal. While the engine is running the coolant flows thru the radiator which cools it. When the engine is shut off the coolant picks up residual heat from the engine and expands. What is not normal is it leaking from the bottle. Either you had over filled it or you have a bad pressure cap ( gasket).
Blue88Comanche Posted July 25, 2011 Author Posted July 25, 2011 ok, thats just the first time i noticed it leaking out the cap after i turned off the engine.. i was not sure what was going on there.
Jerry Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 Worth checking for any small leaks in the rad or hoses :wrench: Small leaks will cause spewing forth of coolant too (on a sealed system)
ParadiseMJ Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 That's normal. Gurgling and flowing is normal (there's a joke there, just sayin'), leaking out the cap is not, it's just wrong. Get a new cap. If you're holding pressure, good. If not, bad!
codymanche Posted July 26, 2011 Posted July 26, 2011 mine used to do that i just got a new cap i think they are like 5 bucks at autozone or sneak one by at the junkyard or something my cap was dry rotted
