I will be moving to Texas in the next couple of months so between finances and the impending move my beloved Burro has to go. The Burro is a super light fiberglass camper that can be hauled by just about anything, my plans were to pull this camper with my Jeep Wrangler on my offroading trips. When I bought the Burro the floor was pretty much rotten due to water. So I separated the body from the frame, then sanded the frame down, painted it with POR 15 (which is a fairly expensive rust preventing paint that keeps moisture away from the metal permanently), and then painted the frame. The axle was sanded down, POR 15'ed, and painted as well. The wheels were painted as well and I bought some new baby moon hub caps and put them on the wheels. But by far the biggest undertaking was the floor replacement. I removed all of the old floor and used treated plywood for the new floor. I also used herculiner (the spray on bedliner for truck beds) and coated all the plywood front, back, and sides before installing. This should keep any water from penetrating the wood again. I also scrubbed the interior and exterior extensively to remove all the oxidation and just years of gunk. The camper is ready for the Vertglas cleaning kit that I purchased to bring back the shine on the gelcoat. So what is left? Well it needs the finished flooring, laminate, hardwood, whatever you want to do. I do have a very dark laminate flooring that I bought from Home Depot that I was planning on using. I was also going to buy new windows, I removed both side windows and was going to buy new windows from Scamp (Burro is out of business but Scamp sells these "egg" campers so they have lots of stuff that works in the Burro). I still have all the old windows so you could just clean those up and reinstall them. I also have a couple new windows that I got off ebay, they aren't exactly the right size but if you are handy you could make them work. Also it needs to be rewired as the old wiring was pretty much shot. The cushions are in good shape, albeit ugly in my opinion, and the previous owner had one big cushion for the rear when the table breaks down into the bed. And all of the cabinet doors have been removed as I was going to make new ones that matched the flooring. There is also a brand new never installed Fantastic Vent (models 4000 R) for the top of the camper, these are pretty cool, check out their website for more info. The tires are pretty much brand new as the previous owner bought them the day before I bought the camper. I have all the original paperwork for the Burro as well as a title. I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff so as I remember I will update this ad. I have hundreds of pictures so if you want to see more just let me know. With a little trailer like the one I put up, it gives you room for the rainy day. That, and a space to stand up on the inside. whowey Posted May 31, 2011 Share Posted May 31, 2011 Same idea as a Scamp. Just as uncomfortable for more than two people... unless you REALLY like each other. very light though. Some friends of my parents had one back in 70's they used to haul with a Chebby Luv. It had a hard time keeping up with my dad, his lead foot and our Coleman 17 footer behind our Hornet Sport Wagon. Spent the night in the Burro one time. Hated the feeling inside the fiberglass bubble. This looks perfect for the MJ.... Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
