SW86
Alright, so Ive got on the line an XJ, i believe an 89 but the dude has no freaking clue about jeeps so he doesnt know. the door tag is gone and i didnt look anywhere else lol. its lifted god knows what. I'm saying 4.5 with spacers front and rear. its on bald 35s, bad alternator, missing pass side axle shaft, broken speedo cable, ROUGH interior, bullet holes in the pass rear quarter, a fair amount of dings and dents but he's only asking 600. a buddy took it for a spin, i didnt. he has first dibs but i doubt the wife will let him do it. here's my deal,,,,,,,,,it has lift parts, all around decent drivetrain (as far as i know), and a dana 44 :brows: that last one pretty much did it for me. ive looked up and down and all around, and in the middle of some random little town. there it is. my 44. so here's the issue I'm facing. can i justify the amount of the 44, lift parts and drivetrain, against the 600 he's asking. my first thought. hell no. second thought. walk up with 400 cash and see if the tweeker bites. third thought. god knows what is really wrong with this thing. i mean a tweeker will do anything, ANYTHING to keep a car going. so who knows what tricks and trades whomever has done to it. now i know my jeep, so i should know this one. i figure i could spot out/hear/feel anything wrong with it,,, but do i risk it???? what would you do? i prolly wouldnt sell the 44  id swap it in the old MJ and sell the 8.25 w/disc conversion to make up some cost. sounds good to me. as for the otherside with parts and whatnot. i don't know. camjeep3
i would say it is worth it. the axle alone is worth about half the asking price. so you should be able to part the rest out and make at least a good bit of cash back.
87Warrior
I say its a toss up - follow your gut. The D44 is not worlds better or stronger than the 8.25. It does have more aftermarket support though. However, the XJ D44 will probably have drum brakes and you already have disks on the 8.25. For $400 I would consider; $600 I would walk away. SW86
^^ thats sort of what I'm thinking too. ive already got the 8.25 ready to go but the 44 ive been searching for forever. i settled for the 8.25 cause it was easy to get. the 44 does have drums though. so id have to do that swap. i know i could make money back on this thing if it runs right. a 100 bucks at the JY and i could have it looking good too. prolly even sell it for more. i don't know though. like you said its a toss up and right now my gut is all over the place on it
Automan2164
Even at what he's asking I think I would get it. D44 discs are easy, and there are tons of useable parts on it, not to mention what it would fetch as scrap steel agen you are finished with it. SW86
true. i think i might go for it. i just hope the gears arent welded. i don't like going that route but he said they're locked front and rear so I'm hoping lockers. either way parts alone its worth it. this afternoon ill go back and give it a good looking over. mainly the 44 so i won't be buying a cracked housing or something retarded to burst my bubble later. also it has 6" coils and spacers, so looks like i won't have to buy coils when i go spring over :D
