D44 diff cover compatibility

this is not aimed tward comanche's but d44 axles in general. my brother has a 96 grand cherokee with the d44 rear axle. it has the aluminum center section. are the diff covers the same as all other d44's? i have a cover off a 78 cherokee with a d44 and he needs one because his is damaged and leaking.

Yes they are interchangeable.

Alum center section = D44A axle. The 78 cover will not interchange with the D44A axle.

is there a place that sells new ones? or is a used one the only option?

Blue Torch Fabrication sells new heavy duty ones for the 44A

gonna take the cheap way out and get one at the junk yard somtime.
