I'm almost finished with my Comanche, mostly cooling / exhaust systems parts and driveshafts. Last weekend I made one heck of a trade, 84 Ranger for a 52 M38A1. Needs some body/paint work and lots of smaller missing parts here and there but otherwise mostly complete. Everything it needs is still available and a pretty fair price. Teaser pic below.

Nice trade. Easily one of my favorite Jeeps.

On another note, I always seem to forget how "pint sized" the older military spec Jeeps are... Kinda neat. One of my bucket list items is to fix an old CJ/Military Jeep and drive the country...

Only after I do it with an MJ first though. Lets not be stupid.

I don't know how many M38 and M38A1 I've gone thru, junked, wrecked, modified, restored, etc. Heck, They were dime a dozen and ready available 'back then' Would love to get my hands on a good one now. Good trade.

Definately needs some work. Engine was painted and looked "rebuilt", PO wasn't sure. He inherited from a second PO who said it was "rebuilt". Pulled the valve cover and discovered mouse droppings....yikes. Pulled the head and discovered 3 frozen valves. Haven't pulled the pan but safe to say engine needs a rebuild. Some minor pitting on block head and cylinder walls.

Ive learned to never listen to anything the PO says about the motor. lol I bought an 88 MJ that supposedly ran and it had less than 75psi compression.

Progress :D

Should have it stripped down to the bare frame today and then off to the local sandblasting shop.
