redzards
Hello all!! :waving: New to the forum, been lurking for a month or so now. I have found some very useful info in here. A couple months ago I bought a 1989 Comanche 2.5 TBI MT 2WD as an ultra low budget truck. I have since added power steering, am trying to scrounge up some tires, bead blasted and primed the wheels (they will get painted when I paint the truck), added cold air intake system (only because the factory air box lid went directly over the power steering cap), all new steering components, and headlight housings with H4 modern bulbs. Now to my dilemma.........I need an accelerator cable. I bought an OEM parts catalog from a closing dealer. It shows 2 different accelerator pedals used and consequently two different cables, both of which are NS1 or discontinued. I have checked these aftermarket brands; Crown, ATP, Dorman, & Pioneer. I have what the OEM parts catalog calls a Type 1 pedal. My cable is 37" tip to tip and 27" clip to clip on the cable housing. No one seems to offer this cable. Has anyone run into this before? I am literally about to pull my hair out over this one issue. :wall: :wall: :wall: Any thoughts or info or help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance! tbrand
Lots of folks keep quiet if they don't have any useful information. I'll hazard a guess. Is your current cable missing, or is it just broken somewhere? If you can take it all off together, you can compare it to a like-era Cherokee cable, which should be the same. :dunno:
Exgrayxj
Not much help, here, but my XJ wagoneer has LT1 Chevy power, and has a non jeep cable, all done by the po. I believe it is some sort of GM cable, possibly from from the engine donor vehicle. Your best option may be take it with you, and visit the jy. It seems like the bulk of the used/junked MJs around here 4cyl, tho the xjs are 6cyl. Six cable might work, don't know.
redzards
Thanks for the replies guys! I have scoured the salvage yards around here. There are a ton of XJ's and one MJ and all but one are 4.0L. ALL of them are port fuel injected. Not a single TBI in the whole group of them to even compare to mine. :dunno: I have my cable, it's plastic mounting clip is broken where it snaps into the bracket by the TBI. The parts stores around here don't have spec books for each product line they carry anymore. If its not in their computer by application and right, then your just out of luck. It's gonna take some time, but I'll figure something out sooner or later............surely. Thanks again for the replies! RE

redzards
jmderyke, You threw me on that one as I had already looked on Oreilley's website and Pioneer's, the cable manufacturer's, website. I have a base SporTruck. Looked under an MJ Pioneer and saw where you found those numbers. Pioneer's website does not show those numbers. I cannot for the life of me understand why an MJ Pioneer would have different accelerator cables than an MJ Base SporTruck, but I will definitely go to Oreilley's and see what I can dig up. Very little to no info on the web about those two part numbers. Thanks for the enlightenment!! Russell

HOrnbrod
The correct part number for your 1989 Comanche 2.5 TBI engine (89 & 90 use the same accelerator cable and the carbed 2.5 cable is different) is 53005244. The vendor below shows several in his inventory. http://collectorsautosupply.com/

Hello Sir, Actually, my original post was at 10AM when I greeted and complemented the forum, gave a little background, and requested help. Almost 14 hours later, at almost midnight when I got home from work, I made the post you quoted. I guess I thought someone would have said howdy. That's all, Sir. I certainly don't feel that I demanded anything, especially an answer to my question. I apologize if it came across that way. Russell
