HOrnbrod
for you computer gurus. The question regards downloading files from my computer to the Kindle. There are plenty of free books on the web available in the correct format I can download to my computer. The Kindle comes in two flavors, wireless only and the more expensive wireless w. a USB cable. I realize I can transfer files easily from my computer to the Kindle via the USB cable, but can I transfer files from my computer somehow using the wireless connection? I do have a WIFI network in the house.
webbjeepxj
Not 100% on this, but I would think it maybe difficult. I use my phone to do the same thing, but ulitilize the bluetooth feature to transfer files. Does the kindle has a bluetooth feature?
HOrnbrod
AFAIK it's not offered, but there are hacks on the Internet to add Bluetooth to the Kindle.
jimoshel
A month ago I didn't know a Kindle from a elephants snot burger. As a direct result of feedback from CC members when i asked about it I gave my GF a Kindle for Christmas. Now I'm an expert on them. Well,,anyway knowledgeable. Kinda,,Apparently Kindles have a EMail address. You download the files you want as usual but use the Kindles email addy. They can then be downloaded using either USB or wireless. She's used wireless on hers and is happier than a coon dog on a hunting trip.

HOrnbrod
Thanks Jim. I've been looking around and found some work around solutions for not using Amazon's download wireless, but it's just not worth it. So I'll get the the one w. USB for the extra $50 so I can get the files I want for free. :D
NewJeeper
I own a kindle, but I've never tried transfering files to it. But like jim said, you have a kindle email address that you should be able to email files to. You can control what is on your kindle from your amazon account under "manage my kindle". Kindle offers plenty of free books as well, if you want to search that route. I've downloaded at least 100 free books. I've never tried using the usb, so I don't know what to tell you there
