Does front grill differ from 96- vs. 97+?

I often see ads for front grills and they usually specify 84-96 or 97-01. I need to replace mine and want to be sure to get one that fits my 88 MJ. Is there a difference at the cut-off years? Hopefully, I can score one at a JY but if the years fit differently, I'll zone in on the earlier years.

84-90 and 91-96 are similar, and interchangeable if you get the headlight bezels that go with it. They don't look any different from afar.

 

The 97-01 ones are completely different.
