Cigar box guitar, but close enough. I think these things are cooler than a cat! I spent 5 months in a hospital strumming an acoustic six string but didn't make a lot of progress. I stumbled on these and now I'm hooked. I picked up two of them for 45 bucks on CL, and I've been playing them (more like playing with them, I don't actually play well) I've got a bunch cigar boxes, a walnut 2"x2", a 2"x2" of red oak, a bunch of tuners, a couple of piezo transducers, and the magnetic pick up and volume and tone knobs from an old junk electric Japanese guitar and I hope to build several.

You use cardboard or wood boxes? Be interested in a couple genuine Cuban red cedar boxes? Without the cigars. I already enjoyed them. Also have some Honduran wooden boxes.

I haven't made one yet. But there's no rules. People make instruments out of anything - gas cans, bed pans, cardboard, washtubs, but the wooden cigar boxes seem to be the norm. That Punch box in the picture is actually thin Spanish cedar covered in paper. I've got about 10 boxes so I'll have to pass unless you have some with a nice artistic picture on them, I might be interested.
