BARILLMS
Here is scoop, I have an '88 MJ I just bought. It has a transplanted 4.0 in it.. the radiator need replaced. I don't know what year to tell the parts store. It's an open system, w/ rad. cap on the drivers side. The upper hose is on the passenger side top corner, the lower hose is on the drivers side about 2/3 way down. There is one tranny line connector on the drivers side, just below the rad cap stem. It sits on two pegs that slip into holes in the front cross member. Anyknow know what year this would be from? '89 - different '92 - different '94 - different All different radiators used.... I'm not sure if my 4.0 is a High Output of not? How do I tell?
JOMJ87
Sounds like the 2.5 rad to me not the 4.0. You may want to look into and upgrade or prepare for overheating if it is can you post a pic?? Cole
Oizarod115
sounds just like my 89 4.0 rad. my brother has an aftermarket replacement rad in his 90 4.0 that has a rad cap, but it it still a closed system, does anyone know a better way to tell the two apart? 87manche
if there's a cap mounted on the radiator then it's a 91 or later rad, of course assuming that it's for the 4.0 My advice, get a tape measure and start measuring. most all parts stores can give you the measurements of replacement rads. (have done t-stat and waterpump on mine and my brothers jeeps and his is WAY easier to get filled back up because of the cap.)
