1988 starter question

When I turn the key nothing happens, there is a pause, then the starter turn over normally so far. There is a relay mounted with 2 screws between the starter and battery, where and what should I be looking for? bbe

sounds like a loose battery cable.. check all the connections at the battery, block and starter and make sure they're all snug... if that fails, the battery could be dying. usually if that relay goes bad it won't start at all.

This sounds very possible, this morning it would not start so I put jumper cables to the battery had the pause then it started. thanks, bbe
