lippetd Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 I have an 86 Comanche XLS 4x4 with a 3.4l V6 and 5 speed that I am just finishing prepping for use as my daily driver. The one fluid I have not been able to check/fill is my 5 speed tranny. I will need to buy a closed end wrench, due to the restricted access on the side of the transmission. I live out of town a ways, and would like to make sure I get the right wrench the first time. The filler hole has a bolt/plug that seems to have a head size right around 1 inch. The Haynes book does not specify the size. Does any one know the actual size? Thanks for any info you can provide.
Geonovast Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 When I filled my AX-5, I removed the shifter and dumped in a pre-measured amount. Was a lot easier than dealing with the fill plug. Edit: I found from one of my old threads that the FSM calls for 7 pints, or 3.3 Liters.
Eagle Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 It's a Japanese transmission, so it is almost certainly a metric bolt, not SAE.
Geonovast Posted September 5, 2010 Posted September 5, 2010 It's a Japanese transmission, so it is almost certainly a metric bolt, not SAE. It's a toss-up. The drain plug on the bottom is 15/16, midplate bolts are metric, bolts that hold the bearing retainer and bellhousing on are standard, shifter bolts are metric...
lippetd Posted September 6, 2010 Author Posted September 6, 2010 So no one who has ever pulled the filler plug off the ax5 remembers the wrench size?
