BookspanS
After a drive from Jax, FL to SC my oil idiot light came on. It will be illuminated when I am at a stop or low RPMs, but when i get driving the light slowly dims with the RPMs. So when the RPMs are high the light doesn't show on. What could be my problem? jimoshel
Sending unit going bad. Just maybe oil pump going bad. Get a mechanical gauge and find out for sure what your pressure is.
Eagle
Oil pressure is lower at low engine RPMs. Your problem could be the sender, could be the poil pump, but most likely is the rod bearings being excessively worn. What year, what engine, and how many miles?
Carl'sMJ
I thought that the oil pressure idiot light was all or nothing :dunno: I didn't think it was supposed to dim with varying oil pressure. Could someone clarify this.

BookspanS
It's a NAPA gold filter. Its the 2.5L from '86, got about 187,000 miles on the ticker. I was thinking oil pump, but I wasn't sure of any other options
Pete M
did you check the oil level? I had a similar occurrence when my rms blew and within a half-hour left me with just a quart of the black stuff in my engine.
BookspanS
I will get that checked as soon as I get back to the truck. I am stuck if FL while the 'Manche sits in SC. I just changed the oil not even 2 months ago, but with my truck...anything can happen :dunno:
