terrawombat
Or at least this fool thinks so: http://cnj.craigslist.org/ctd/1890718600.html That's probably the 3rd or 4th time it's been listed on CL as a '96. What's humorous is that the VIN is posted showing it to be an '86, but our friend Tony seems convinced that it is a much newer model. I've actually been down to this lot and saw the MJ in person. It was closed, but it's an open lot on the side of the street so I checked it out anyway. No idea on a price, but it's actually not a bad looking MJ. It looks like it has been painted primer gray and it has five spoke Jeep alloys and a white fiberglass cap. I didn't give it a thorough inspection as I probably looked like I was trying to boost the truck and didn't need to be arrested for trespassing on a closed car lot. If anyone is interested in the truck, I can get some more details on it as well as some pictures. Based on the other vehicles in the lot, I doubt it's going anywhere anytime soon. johnnyc
Yes, the G in the VIN indicates that it's an 86.
mvusse
There is one 1996 Comanche I know of. EVERYTHING that interchanges came off a 96 Cherokee. Engine, drive train, all body parts that work. So the BMV titled it as a 96. Maybe this is that one again?
kastein
I know of a 97 MJ as well. Do they issue a new VIN when stuff like that is done though? Does it match the normal scheme or is it from a separate "pool" of VINs? I would like something like this just so I could walk into a parts store and ask for parts for a 97 Jeep Comanche and watch the counter guy stare blankly at his computer. terrawombat
I remember reading a thread somewhere (here? NAXJA?) where someone converted a Comanche to 97+ XJ stuff and when he went through inspection, they noted the registration said it was an '86-'92 (don't remember what year it was), but it had an ODBII connection so they could hook their fancy schmancy computer up to it. Upon realizing this fact, they had the owner change the title and registration to say it was a '97 so that the next inspection idiot would know he could hook up their reader to the computer. kyleag89
Why would you want your reg and tittle to read 97? I don't about those guys but I have no desire to have an emissions inspection on my MJ.. :dunno:
terrawombat
Nobody wants to do it, but when the government says you have to, people usually just say ok.
