Floppy steering bushing

Recommended Posts

Got the sloppy, floppy steering wheel problem. Problem is I can't get the right hand bushing out. Left side came out OK. So far I've snapped the head off of three bolts trying to remove it. First two times enough thread was left I was able to remove the stub. The last time it broke even and I can't get it out. I am thinking of three possibilities. Drill the broken bolt out and then drill and thread the hole to a larger size. Drill the whole bushing out. Drill a series of small holes around the bushing, removing the pressure on it. I have fixed maybe four of these before and never had this problem. Basically I'm just interested in knowing how some of you would handle it.

If it comes down to 'have to' I've got enough columns laying around I can just swap the whole thing. Your thoughts? :hmm:

Id probably tack a nut on and pull it off with that since yer seamingly gona be replacing them and then purchac the correct tool for the next time as its so much easier, atleast thats what i did but are u sure its the bushings as its usualy the male torx bolts at the base that come lose?
