hey guys I was working on the manche today and while crawling around under her I noticed that the vacume line to the CAD was cut short and not hooked up. It is a clean cut and looks as though it was done on purpose. So I started wondering if the previouse owner locked the CAD engaged. I tried turning the front driveshaft and it would not move and seemed engaged. What exactly is the benefits of this?

The benefits of having it engaged all the time is that you know the 4wd will work when you need it. A downside is it spins the driveshaft all the time, so you will lose a small amount on your mileage. Might not be noticeable.

it would be best to pop the cover to see for sure what's going on in there. need to be sure it was done properly.

I got ahold of TmanHollister last night via email (i bought the truck from him) and he told me that he did it, which makes me not worry. If he would have told me that he did not do it then I would have definatley torn that thing open and checked out what was going on.

than all is well. the only real drawback of a locked CAD is that it'll tell you right away if your front driveshaft U-joints are bad. :D The "loss" is fuel economy is too small to calculate.
