Recall 276T

The dealer says there is a recall on my vehicle, VIN: GT200249. It does not show up on the Jeep website, apparently because its too old. They said to call Jeep Customer Service. Customer service at Jeep told me to call the dealer. So round and round I go.

 

According to a google search its says:

276T JAN 90 Recall - Replacement Catalytic Converter

 

That site doesn't give any more info without paying for it.

 

The dealer can't look it up either. They said I need to find a dealer that still has it "in the books" since its not recorded electronically. Anybody know where to find more info on this recall, so I can tell them what needs to be done?

I tried a search, for both 1989 and 1990 Comanches, and I didn't come up with anything for the catalytic converter. And the number you gave is not in the right format for an official recall.

Thanks for the link. The number is a TSB, but it says "Recall", and the dealer said it was a recall. I don't know any more than that. I'm surprised it didn't come up at the site you linked, but there were several others for '86 Comanches.

 

I started looking into this hoping the parking brake would be covered since mine is broke. The linked site gave this for the parking brake:

My VIN is included in the range of recalls for the parking brake. I'll print the pdf and take it to my dealer to see what they say. It would be nice to have this work done for free. I'm not very hopeful since it sounds like this assembly has been discontinued, so I'm not sure what they could do.

 

Still curious on the Catalytic Converter recall. Does anyone have a subscribtion to AllDataDIY.com to look this up?

In my view, if it isn't listed on the government's official recall site, it isn't a recall. It may be a TSB, bt the difference between a TSB and a recall is that recalls are mandatory -- they HAVE to do them, and the manufacturer pays. TSBs are recommended but optional, and YOU get to pay if you have them done.

EPA records only go back to 1991, so I'm still not sure if my catalytic converter is a recall that Jeep must fix.

You need a subscription to read what this TSB is. But ... although it is titled "Recall - Replace catalytic converter" it is listed as a TSB and the number is NOT an NHTSA recall number, so I am still of the opinion that this is a TSB rather than a recall.

I just tried to pull it up in chrysler, and it shows up in the recall system as "Recall 276T Jeep catalyst", but when you click on it, it then comes up as "document not available". Ill try to see if I can find it in the old printed recall books for you after lunch.

Didnt see anything on parking brake or cat/converter. This alldata info was obtained from the version used at the Honda dealership my son works at.
