Pete M
you'll need to fab up custom parts. the power seats are bulky and don't conform to the MJ floor well. but it has been done. I just can't remember who it was. :dunno:
jpnjim
97+ seats are easy, but you need to grab the bracket that's welded to the XJ's floor. MJ's have a floor reinforcing bracket on top of their floors that will interfere with the XJ-bracket, but most MJ's already have it cut out when doing floors (or it's rotted apart by now). If you still have the MJ reinforcing bracket, you'll have to cut a chunk out of it to fit the XJ bracket. I slid my XJ bracket rearward to open up a little more leg room (97+ XJ's have less leg room than 84-94's <--- not sure where 95/96's fit into this). That takes care of the front mounts, for the rear mounts I chopped the mounting feet off, shortened the bracket they were on, and welded them back together. You have to drill new holes in the floor for the rear mounts, and probably should back the bolt up with a washer underneath. I removed the 97+ seat belt buckles from my seats (later XJ's mount the belts to the seat, instead of the floor), trying to incorporate the later belts to the MJ seemed like a PITA. For power, grab the XJ's harness, There are ports you can connect to on the fuse box, but I used non-power XJ seats in mine. I also modified my passengers side (2001 4 door) seat to fold forward. If/when I ever get around to doing the other side, I'll take some pics, but I did not include any kind of latch (see freely folds forward, and doesn't latch). jpnjim
I slid a 'kids seat' between my 01' buckets: had to make a bracket to raise the center seat, so I made it a locking storage box: When I was trying to find the best height: & here's a pic of the bracket you need for the later style seats: (marked 'Take' in pic)
Huntingman2706217
thanks fellas... i got to looking at the setup in the XJ and i think the floors actually sit lower or are more of a bowl shape then the MJ so cutting out the floors is not gonna work... ill look at pulling that front bracket also out of there before it gets hauled off... i did however played with the front mounts some and made a small cut on each front part... then bent the metal flat... this way i just need to make new holes for the front mounts and it sat the front down lower about 1.5inches... so i don't think ill need the brackets from the 97+... now the back is to high and i see no easy way of doing that... the electric seat brackets are different then the standards... i saw a picture somewhere of all the different brackets for the MJ and XJ seats and they used several... i can see how i can cut it down and then reweld it back together and get about 1.5 inches cut our of the back also which would level the seats back out but I'm not sure if itll be enough to get in without smacking my head still... and the flat metal is laid at like a angle like a "Z" style and ill be cutting the middle out... which is alot... probly not gonna be fun... i dunno.. ill figure it out though... lol... thanks again guys!! jpnjim
Couple more pics, before I spaced the seats out, to fit the 'kids seat': shows how much father back the DS seat is compared to the PS: (passengers side seat is in the stock XJ location) different angle (drivers seat is all the way back in pic): and the kid seat:
Huntingman2706217
I'm gonna go take a pic of the cut and bend i made to the OEM seat brackets right fast and try and figure out to post them on here... ive never been able to get pics to work on here yet as i don't use photobucket or any of that crap... Huntingman2706217
yeah i can't figure it out... i need to go find a how to on here for it still... anyways your seats don't sit up to high? if i was to use the bracket from the 97+ then my seats would still be up high and i can't even get in? my head hits the top of the door and i just don't fit through unless i go head first which sucks... lol
Huntingman2706217
made a test thread at CF for this... here's the pics... the drivers side which is electric looks like the easier side... its the pass that i messed with alittle... you can see where i made a small cut and then bent them flat... this lowered the front down some but not alot... you can see how the rears are made and there not gonna be fun... i may just cut the brackets out completely and use some scrap 1x1 square tubing instead... i can gridn the brackets down flush at the bottom and drill holes for the bracket rivets in the 1x1 so i don't have to take them out and everything else fall apart... and ill also be able to bolt through the 1x1 easily... i can use the 1x1 kinda like block from front to back in a stair pattern since the front will be about an inch higher then the rear anyway... this will also allow me to be able to get to the bolts easier if i make them sticking out from the seat some to bolt it down since the seat will be so low... http://www.cherokeeforum.com/f23/test-s ... post622784
