vhenem
I’ve been gathering all the parts needed for my SOA, I’ve got my perches from the local Chrysler dealer, U-Bolts, Dakota Rear Brake Line etc. Just looking at options for shock mounts now and it’s a toss-up between getting some mounts welded to the axle or reusing the MJ’s Plate and reattach the shocks to them . Whats the best option ? pros/cons for each etc.
MrFreeze5
I just bought a few sets of shock mounts for my ZJ and MJ projects about 2 weeks ago. I got the boxed style for strength and for ease of install. I also have some individual tabs, but they don't stand far enough off the tube for my tastes. The RE and MORE mounts are nice and beefy, but are nearly $30. I ordered a set of currie shock mounts from Jegs for about $15. Theyre a bit thinner metal, and are comparable to stock size, which for me has held up fine. I had actually bought a set of the MORE mounts from a local shop($33!!) then found the currie ones a few days later on Jegs.com when I was ordering Mopar spring perches(only $13) and ordered a few pairs. Then I took the MORE ones back and exchanged them for a set of JKS top shock post adapters :D

Its all still sitting on the kitchen counter, but should be installed in the next week or two max I think. My shock mounts are the Currie ones pictured in the last post. The metal is a bit thinner than the MORE or RE mounts, but I think it should be fine. I bought 2 sets, one for my ZJ, and one for my MJ, and I needed something that would stand off the tube far enough to clear the coil bucket on my ZJ; but on the MJ, clearance shouldnt be an issue. mkbruin
I re-used the spring plates on my old MJ. On my next one, I will burn in some new mounts. The plates are good as a short-term fix to get it on the road, but the short length really reduces travel. (This is not full-flex, but shows just how short the shocks really were. I am looking for a better pic to share.)
shark
seems like just welding some tabs on the housing would be just fine and you could go to some xj spring plates.

You don't need the XJ spring plates. The MJ ones are fine. If the stud bothers you you can revers the sides and put the stud in the front or you can cut off the stud with a cut off wheel. I have a bunch of XJ parts cluttering up my garage to its my first instict to try and use some of that junk. even if you didnt have them, theyd be super cheap at a junk yard with no modification required. i wouldnt make a special trip for them but if you were there... I think the word 'modify' is too much for what you have to do here. It takes like two minutes to cut off both studs with a cut off wheel as opposed to driving all the way to a yard and buying a set of cherokee plates. cracker
OK. If you say so. The XJ plates don't work on the 8.8 swap :shake: 8.8 axle tube is larger axle tube at 3.25"
