SW86
They only told me and what the paper work said was it has to be stock to manufacturers spec (ha!), I have to have a different primary vehicle and it has to be 25 years or older. They didn't tell me any driving restrictions or anything else with it. I looked on the states DMV site and saw no other things but I'm sure there has to be something And yes, 9 bucks. 89eliminator
we have something similar, "collector" and "hobbyist". collector is a factory car older than 20 years, while a hobbyist can be whatever the eff you want. they are twice the cost of a yearly plate, you can't drive it in January and you have to have a normal plated vehicle. SW86
Yeah they have a "hot rod" version (same plate) where you list all the mods etc etc but like yours up there, it cost way more. I said fuuuuuuuccccckkkkkk that lol Anyway, got a box dropped off today. What's in the box you say,, @#$%ing steering kit! Doubt ill ever bend these bastards
89eliminator
it is bendable...
SW86
I'm sure you can bend it but I doubt it happens while on my MJ. It's 1.5" X .25" Wall DOM tubing.
89eliminator
the only reason i bent mine was cause i dropped off a ledge right onto a rock directly in the middle of the tie rod. its now super high clearance lol
SW86
Haha! Yeah that'll do it. I got the new unit bearings in. The last piece I didn't replace on the super 30 build. Of course cold weather snapped the $#!&ty air hose I had on my compressor, so those axle nuts will be fun!..... I could buy a new one but I live way out in the country and I really don't feel like driving in 30mph gusts. On a side note, the first wheelin trip is coming up fast. Feb 28-mar 2 at Superlift (again..). I've got a few things to do but I should be alright. Can't wait to try out the new setup
SW86
Alright been awhile. The front pinion bearing was @#$%ed so I had to take it back to the guy who installed it. I've got it back and it's all good. I really do love the 4.88s. I also went and picked up the steel to make the sliders. I'm going to hate cutting the truck but one side rocker is screwed up anyway. Hopefully ill get them installed before next weekends run. I know I won't get the steering done though :( Cut and ready Also bought enough to finally build my rear bumper. Which is going to be nice to have rear recovery points again
SW86
Welp did a test fit and I don't like it. I went with 2x6" and I should of went 2x5".... @#$%
89eliminator
stick out too far?
SW86
Yup a hair over 3 1/2". That's just to the pinch seam, which is where I wanted to weld to. I could cut further back into the body but id rather not. I'll give it another look though before going anywhere else with it. It was only 130 bucks for the 20ft stick but still.... It'd make a great base for an exo and side protection but it bugs me being out so far.
89eliminator
is it flush against the pinch seam? my 2x6 doesnt stick out quite as far. how come you arent going under the bed with it?
SW86
it was flush in the front but stuck out about an 1/2" in the rear due to that curve in the seam. overall i had to straighten it out a little but it was good. i didnt go under the bed because in the future i hope not to have it. i went an inch past the cab to provide a spot for an exo and/or tube bed...... one day.. i also thought about cutting those bed rockers to match the curve of the frame rails. both sides are crushed in anyway so itd be a little late. i don't know how the rockers have made it this far... well, the drivers side anyway.. SW86
I got a little frisky with the cut off tool. First cut. Full of three different color soil samples and lots of rocks. Cleaned up and after more cutting Hopefully I can finish it before this weekends run LOL
jbain
Good luck on sthe sliders.... it's nice to be able to drop a slider on a rock and pivot on it. Things get real tight in the West Virginia ravines so if you can't pivot your in a real pickle. Make sure you take lots of pics for me to look at Monday Morning..... SW86
Ill take a few pics but its hard when your driving all time lol. Got the one side slider in. Not burned in but in place. Way better once I cut and fit instead of that bull$#!& test fit lol
SW86
Four beers and an hour so later, a buddy had the drivers burned in. @#$%in a
N.WestManche
Great build man i just picked up my Manche and your build is right along the same line as my plans. can't wait to see your bed start to take shape either way you decide to go
SW86
Thanks. My build is nothing special really. Kind of doing my own thing and using lots of ideas off the net of course lol. I can't wait to finally decide on what to do with the bed myself haha. It's a tough choice. Keep it and go prerunner look or ditch it and go truggy.... Tough one I tell ya! Anyway this past weekends trip was good. We ran level 4s nonstop again. I beat the hell out of the mj and it did awesome. I didn't break anything (big surprise) but to date I've never had any real trail breaks. Maybe good luck, good driving skills, a combo of the two..? I don't know lol I did however smack my transfer case HARD several times. Can't believe I didn't at least crack it or something. It's time for a skid though that's for sure! I've got a few pics but only about five or so. Ill post up when I'm near a computer.

SW86
We picked up lots of snow and ice, so I had to play. Then of course I promptly got stuck Thankfully the power company was getting stuck around the area as well, so tractors were driving around pulling them (and us) out. I had to wrap to the axle and it just made me want to get that rear recovery point situation sorted even more
SW86
Well apperantly I ovaled out the ears on my front axle shafts last run. So instead of leaving on my next trip this weekend, I get to replace both shafts this morning before I roll out. Yay!......
SW86
made it back home safely. we went back to Hawk Pride in north western Alabama. ive said it before and ill say it again, a very awesome place. there are a few pics ill get from the clubs page and hopefully a lot of video of me since a buddy had a go pro deal hooked on his cage facing me the whole time. we'll see as far as carnage, i almost ripped off my front pass fender, crush in the driver side cab corner (just had to match the pass side) and put a nice big ole slice in one of my side walls on a new trail the club cut there. then the bed got dented up from a tree. it rained a little and Alabama clay does not play. its nasty and slick as @#$%. hence some of my damage.
