clutch pedal needs to be "pumped" ??

its on the 86 4x4 ( 2.5, 5spd) and the clutch seems to work fine but when it's first applied, if applied slowly it just goes down and does virtually nothing, but when depressed quikly it works well. also when pumped like pumping a brake pedal it also works very well. fluid is full, no sign of leaking. all suggestions appreciated.

Sure it's not leaking up by the firewall?

Internal seal leaks at either the slave or the master sounds like. Youll probably need to replace both.... it should be external slave, so should be no big deal.... you won't need to pull the tranny!
