lostissues
I want to wire in my 97+ heated mirror and was wondering if there is a defrost circuit still in our trucks? I know that a lot of stuff is the same between the XJ and MJ but did they remove the defrost from our trucks? or are they still in there laying dormant waiting to be used by some crazy person who wants warm mirrors? 87 4.0 LWB Thanks, Jonathan
jimoshel
Frankly I've never seen one. According to the FSM they were available. Will be a Sw labeled 'defogger' on the Instrument panel. A 25A fuse in the fuse panel and a relay located behind the IP by the cigar lighter. If the MJ doesn't have one shouldn't be all that big a deal to swap one out of another Jeep vehicle,
lostissues
are you looking at the 88 FSM? I found the listing for the fuse in the fuse box, I will have to check and see if there is even a connector in that slot. I also saw they listed a connector for a defogger switch and connector for the defogger relay so I will have to check for that. what are all the switches available that fit in the dash? Fog lights, Cargo light, Power/comfort and rear defogger/wiper? was the cargo light switch substituted for anything in the Cherokee?
jpdocdave
i found the fog light wiring in the cab already there just waiting when i did mine, but i don't remember anything else. worst came to worse, use the fog light wiring for the mirrors if you want, plug in the switch, add the relay that goes on the fender from the factory anyway, and the wiring goes to the headlight harness, you'd just have to re wire from headlight harness, just a random thought. lostissues
I am not concerned with wiring them in to get them to work. all I would have to do is add a switch, wires and relay. What I'm looking for is if the true defrost circuit is still there, then I could use the factory switch or at least the output of the circuit which should be a timed circuit. most defoggers will turn themselves off after about 10 minutes so not to burn out the heater wires. plus it would mean that I can use or re purpose all of the factory switch openings. until I decide to put in Fog lights, then I have to move some switches around. or finally make the switch panel I have been tinkering with.
