Cheech
I know this was been discussed recently, but my question differs slightly. The new valve cover fasket that came in my kit doesn't seem to fit properly, its almost like its a little too big. So I will ask: Is there any problem if I use RTV instead of the rubber gasket that came in my kit?
mnkyboy
is it the right gasket? If it is and just won't stay in i would glue it in with RTV to hold it in place while you bolt it down. if its not the right gasket or something is wrong with it i would get another one. Cheech
It is the correct gasket, it just seems like the raised rib of the gasket will not fit properly into the groove of the valve cover.
Backroads
Mine was kind of like that as well. It was a vatozone china junk one. I just put a bead of RTV on both sides of it and about 2k miles later, hasn't let out a drip.
jteckmann
Mine was like that as well. It was a FelPro rubber. I think it's just the design - it seems to fit into place as you slowly tighten down the cover. I put mine together without silicone - just a thin layer of gasket shellac to keep it in place as I repositioned the cover. Hasn't leaked yet (about 10K mi)
Geonovast
I had a problem like that with a 4.0 valve cover gasket. Thought it was wrong, didn't seem to line up right... until I realized the front and back were shaped differently, and I had it backwards. Dunno if the 2.5 is the same.
