MJ is dead
Went to a nearby junkyard today just svrounging and I stumbled on an mj. It has bucket seats and taillights But right next to it was an XJ limited with black leather interior....power everything, Will the seats bolt up to my brackets? And how bout the door panels?? I should be able to switch out the door handles from my non power mj doors right? Can I hardwire thes seats to work?? They're perfect! The mj seats he had weren't bad, but had one rip. He only wants 40 for the mj seats and 50 for the xj :help:
Boilermaker
Nice finds. Since the XJ had a black interior, i'm assuming the XJ limited was an 89ish or earlier. Will the seats bolt up to my brackets i believe if your MJ currently has buckets (or if you grab just the tracks from the JY MJ) the XJ seats should bolt up directly to the MJ tracks. I'm not 100% sure on that, so hopefully someone else will come along to confirm or correct what i just typed. if you have a bench and don't want to buy the MJ tracks, its possible, just a little more work. Can I hardwire thes seats to work?? Hardwire as in using the 6-way power adjustments? the wiring itself would be just running power and ground from the fuse box to the power seat track...the problem is the power motors/mechanisms are part of the XJ seat track, and the XJ power seat track is not a direct bolt in on our MJs. And how bout the door panels?? if you aren't using any of the power accessories, you're going to have to cut a hole in the panels for your window crank. Other than that, i can't think any other major differences. I should be able to switch out the door handles from my non power mj doors right? there's no need to switch out your interior door handle either way, the handles are the same between the two. If you are going to use the power accessories, then you would need to grab the bezel out of the XJ limited for the switches.
MJ is dead
Yeah. I meant the bezels around the door handles. Will mine bolt in over the xj ones? The xj ones looked a little bigger to account for all the switches and crap. I knew I'd have to cut a hole for the window crank, but that's fine. I have no plans to use the power stuff, unless its easy to make the power seats work. Regardless of what seats I snag, the center console, steering wheel and whatever other interior bits I can get are mine! :wavey:
High2by
That's a nice find. I would love to find some leather seats in good shape.
dasbulliwagen
The power seat adjustments are built to the frame, but if you unbolt the seats from the power frame, they MAY bolt up to the MJ tracks, you just wouldnt have power seats anymore. Not sure if the XJ seats had power backrest adjustment or not, but if it does you may have to rig power up to adjust your seatback... shouldnt be a big deal, but if I'm thinking correctly they didnt have that. I pulled power seats out of a 96 for my brother and it didnt have power backrest so you should be OK to just swap the seat pan and back.
88pioneer
This should help with the seat conversion  viewtopic.php?f=9&t=8093
MJ is dead
So my understanding is...I should buy the MJ buckets for their sliders and floor brackets, and the XJ seats cuz they're sexy? Then I can just take the cushion off the XJs and put them on the MJs?? Also, I need to get the "power" switch for my trans, can I snag that from this XJ too? The mj there is a 5spd
88pioneer
Essentially yes, buy the MJ seats so you have the brackets, and the transfer over is pretty simple

MJ is dead
Sorry, I meant the bezels around the power switches. Since my mj lacks these things, will the bezel from my mj bolt in where the xj bezel sits? Nothing a tape measure won't answer I guess. I'll throw one in the toolbag when I go parts pulling
