Soundproofing Jeep

Ok, since i lifted the carpet up and found no rust (huge sigh of relief since my last jeep was flinstones bred) i am considering soundproofing the entire interior.

My main priorities are to get rid of some of the squeaks in the doors and some of the drivetrain noise.

i know most proofing follows two seperate avenues... vibration, and sound.

 

what have you all had luck with, as with anything, i don't want to spend a fortune. ive heard good things and bad things about PEEL n' SEAL from home depot.

 

Dynamat is too dang expensive.

in my old xj i tried that black peel and stick stuff from home depot I'm assuming its the same thing your talking about i believe its made for window and siding weather proofing, and then just bought a roll of carpet insulater for cars and put that in too. i was sound proofing cause we had just had our daughter and the exhaust was really loud and it got real hot inside too it worked for me hopefully this will help you

The biggest cause of road noise in our rigs is shot weatherstripping. If you wanna make that sucker sound proof this is the best place to start. Then bedline your floor, use the peel and seal, then put your carpet back down

 

I've yet to tear the door panel off yet, but when I do start the sound deadening on mine, I'm going to try to place some peel and seal in the inside of my doorskin, much like you see on newer vehicles

 

Also, depending on what your jeep has for the rear cab (behind the seats) you may want to go so far as to peel and seal that too :thumbsup:

late model XJ 4door seals seal better than our old stuff. :thumbsup:

 

If it were my truck, I think I'd go with Herculiner roll on stuff. If nothing else than to help protect the floor from the inevitable water leaks.

I used Protecto-Wrap (Same thing as peel'n'seel) in a Ford Festiva I owned. Worked great, did the whole car, including the hood, hatch, and roof, for like $30. I'll be doing it again in my XJ. It's not going to turn your MJ into a Lexus on the highway so don't expect that, but it will quiet things down.
