Pete M
No, the trans will not work for you. :(
Geonovast
The 4 cylinder transmissions (AX-4 and AX-5) will not bolt up behind a 4.0. Also, if that XJ is a 4 speed, the axles are most likely geared at 3.55. Chances are extremely remote that it's a D44 rear end.
88mjmanche
there is another jeep cherokee next to it it also has a 4 cyl but it is a five speed witha dana 35 in te rear what are the odds of 4.10s in that its a 1989 4 door 2.
Geonovast
2.5/5 speed has a pretty good chance of 4.10s. Can never say 100% for sure without checking the ratio yourself.
Pete M
axles can easily be swapped. You'll need to check everything personally to know for sure what ratio is there.

Geonovast
If you're wanting a better transmission, look for an AX-15. If you grab those axles, see if you can't grab the speedo gear stuff out of the T-case.

Geonovast
Ah... just noticed the bigger tires in your sig. Factory speedo gear stuff won't do you any good.
