hey guys so my gas guage is frozen and I found out the hard way today soapbox.gif yesterday i had about an 1/8th of a tank and on my way home today it started chugging so I immediatley pulled into a gas station and put 10 bucks in of the exspensive stuff and the gauge didnt move :hmm:

Is my float stuck?

Guess no expert advice available. So my 2c, look for loose wire, blown fuse, bang the dash, kick the gas tank, etc. Haven't experienced that problem myself.

my gas gauge is broken and the mechanic told me it was the sending unit...the crappy part about it is you can't get a new one so i have to get the one i have rebuilt if i want it to work :fs1:

I filled my tank and it only went up to Half. But it does go down so not sure whats up with mine. I have read on here that you can buy a new XJ unit and use it to rebuild your MJ unit.

the gas gauge getting stuck halfway up proboby has someting to do with your floater. and as for the sending unit i would just use one for a new xj. drop the tank and figure out how to make i work. it can't be very hard. i had a 64 dodge a100 truck (like the little red wagon drag truck) and it didnt have a tank at all. my dad and i built a gas tank for it and used the sending unit out of a 80's model ford pickup. the gauge worked fine with that sending unit. so a slightly newer jeep model sending unit almost has to work :dunno:
